Celebrity Travel Experts, On-Site Adventure Activities & National Geographic ADVENTURE Seminars
Milford, CT -- From trekking in Patagonia to safari in Tanzania, from diving in Mexico to biking in Ireland - virtually every conceivable adventure vacation awaits Bay Area travel enthusiasts at the Moscone Center on Saturday and Sunday, November 12 and 13, 2005, as the Adventures in Travel Expo hits San Francisco.
The Adventures in Travel Expo - the world's largest travel and adventure show - brings together hundreds of exhibitors including destinations and resorts from around the world, tour operators, outfitters, gear and apparel manufacturers and adventure experts of all kinds who are prepared to assist Bay Area residents to plan their ultimate dream vacation. Whether ones vacation passion is a biking tour in China or touring Gothic castles in Great Britain, the Adventures in Travel expo is the place to be to plan a great travel experience.
"Adventure travel is the fastest growing segment of the travel marketplace, with people spending $115 billion annually," says Adventures in Travel Expo organizer and CEO of Unicomm LLC, John Golicz. "Nowadays, Americans are seeking more from their vacations than just a tan; they want to experience a destination from a physical, spiritual and cultural perspective and return home with a sense of knowledge and accomplishment. This is what our shows are about - putting together trips that create those memorable adventures." The Adventures in Travel Expo is now seen in six of the top 10 U.S. travel markets, including Chicago, NYC, Los Angeles, Washington, DC, San Francisco and Dallas.
Show attendees will also be able to sample the vast array of on-site adventure activities. They can scale rock-climbing walls, learn to dive or kayak in the huge scuba pool, experience a blizzard in the world's largest Snow Globe or enjoy cultural dances on the Global Beats Stage. There will even be an Adventure Travel Theatre to view the latest travel videos and the chance to meet Justine Shapiro, the host of the popular PBS travel series, "Globe Trekker."
This year's Expo line-up will also feature some celebrity adventurers from the hit reality show, "Survivor." Burton Roberts (Survivor: Pearl Islands) and Jenna Lewis (Survivor: Borneo) who will launch their new travel company, Reality Trips, from the Expo floor will meet attendees and sign autographs. Reality Trips is a unique adventure tour company that sends participants on tours with reality show stars, like Heidi Bressler and Bradford Cohen from "The Apprentice," or Mike "The Miz" of "Real World," to name just a few.
The Expo is also the place to get up close and personal with National Geographic ADVENTURE's award-winning writers and photographers who will hold a series of seminars on Saturday, November 12th from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Attendees will be treated to the likes of Robert Young Pelton, author of The World's Most Dangerous Places who had been kidnapped by right wing death squads in Colombia, survived a plane crash in Indonesia, a head-on motorcycle accident in Peru and was the first journalist to interview the American Taliban John Walker Lindh; Costas Christ, "World Class" columnist and President of the Adventure Council, also a founding member and Chairman of the Board for the International Ecotourism Society; and Kira Salak, a woman who has traveled solo to almost every continent, visiting the world's most remote locales and who is named one of National Geographic's 2005 Emerging Explorers, among others. Amateur photographers will want to stop by the National Geographic ADVENTURE booth to drop off their best adventure photos for the "Wild Angle Photo Contest" and the chance to win the Grand Prize trip to exotic Iceland.
The Expo includes pavilions such as SeeAmericaTM, an initiative coordinated by the Travel Industry Association to have Americans explore more of their country, an Ecotourism Pavilion sponsored by The International Ecotourism Society, a Caribbean Pavilion sponsored by the Caribbean Tourism Organization and much more. Some of the exhibitors to the show include Argentina, CC Africa, Costa Rica Tourism, Gothic Image Tours of Ancient Britain, India Tourism, Libya Robban Tourism, Mexico Tourism, Nomadic Expeditions, Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, Somak Safaris, Tahiti Tourism, Unique Jamaica and USVI Tourism to name just a few.
