CNN’s BUSINESS TRAVELER Dispenses Tips on How to Cope with Sleep Deprivation
Airtimes: Saturday, November 19 at 23:30
Business travel is the foe of quality sleep. Long-haul flights, jetlag, hectic schedules, late nights, etc, all make a perfect recipe for poor sleep. On CNN BUSINESS TRAVELER this month, Richard Quest flies to Tokyo to examine how changes to our sleep pattern caused by business travel can affect our work performance and health.
Reporting from a city where one in four people suffer from sleep disorders, a jetlagged Quest is put to the test as he visits a karaoke and then spends hours watching films after a long-haul flight to Tokyo via the US. During the trip, the CNN host’s sleep patterns and performance are monitored with the help of a sleep clinic and sleep experts.
Despite the physically demanding task, Quest manages to survive his jetlag thanks to tips from a former SAS soldier and an air hostess who has flown 10 million miles, both of whom advise Quest on how to cope with sleep deprivation.
In the half-hour show, Quest also visits a luxurious Ryokan, a traditional Japanese inn in Yagyunosho, where he gets a taste of authentic Japanese customs and culture, most notably the sacred ritual of bathing. In addition, Quest meets Japanese designer Takahiro Miyashita before leaving the city that never sleeps.
CNN BUSINESS TRAVELER is a monthly feature program produced in association with InterContinental Hotels and Resorts.
