Thailand's petrochemical industry will need to invest in the latest process engineering and scientific instrumentation technologies to expand manufacturing capacity due to higher demand for petrochemicals driven by high crude prices.
The country’s budding biotech industry is another sector that will require significant investment in scientific instrumentation technologies since the government is determined to get on the fast-accelerating biotech bandwagon by asserting itself in the field of clinical research and becoming a significant player in global drug development. Medical research labs will need to also gear up to develop vaccines to fight the spread of bird flu which has already caused more than 10 deaths in Thailand since 2003.
Therefore, Thai companies should not miss the opportunity to visit the CIA2005, EnvironmexAsia and WatermexAsia exhibitions, which will take place in Singapore at Suntec City from November 29 to December 2, 2005, as they will feature the latest technologies in process engineering, scientific instrumentation, environmental, waste and water management.
At CIA2005, short for ChemAsia, InstrumentAsia, AnaLabAsia, visitors can find innovative technological products and services in the biotechnology, life sciences, F&B processing, chemical and petrochemical processing, refining, pharmaceutical, as well as pulp and paper industries. A wide range of companies at CIA specialise in scientific instrumentation including Daihan Labtech, Achema, Fisher Scientific, Retsch, Whatman, ITS, Merck, Esco Global, EMC Lab and Julabo. There will also be group showcases from Australia, Germany, Korea, Singapore, and the UK.
“Over the past decade, Thailand has made impressive strides in addressing the massive task of managing the 22 million tons of waste it produces each year. Recent successes and current interest among government, general public and the private sector, positions Thailand to take decisive steps to address the unfinished agenda by focusing on reducing and recycling waste; improving treatment and safe disposal of solid and hazardous wastes; enhancing the supporting institutional, regulatory and financing framework; and expanding public participation”, commented Mr. Patchamuthu Illangovan, Country Sector Coordination for Environment & Social Development, Southeast Asia Country Management Unit of the World Bank’s Bangkok office.
Alongside the exhibition, the CIA2005 International Conference held from 30 November to 2 December will confront issues in safety and reliability, industrial networking and communication, productivity and asset management, field devices for sensing and measurement as well as automation and control strategies.
Environmental management technologies and renewable energy strategies
An increase in petrochemical output poses challenges in environmental management because of the incremental effect it has on waste generation. Thai companies can gain insights on waste management by attending the Asia Waste Management Summit, which takes place from 30 November to 1 December in Singapore.
Recognising years ago that Thailand might experience an oil shortage, the Thai government has been making further advancements with its alternative energy campaigns, setting a goal this year of four million litres a day of gasohol 95 consumption. Premium petrol is supposed to be phased out and fully replaced by gasohol 95 by 2007. Learn about technologies for renewable energy and financing of renewable energy projects at the Sustainable Energy Asia 2005 conference.
The two conferences feature international experts from the World Bank, Shell, Natsteel, Thai Military Bank and other renowned institutions will convene at these two conferences to address pertinent environmental issues. They will introduce strategies for maximising water resources, minimising/recycling waste, and conserving energy renewable energy sources including wind, biomass, hydro, solar and geothermal at these conferences.
Thais working in the energy field can source technologies for renewable energy projects at EnvironmexAsia and WatermexAsia2005, a four day exhibition that presents the latest technologies in environmental control and pollution management, water purification technology, waste management treatment and disposal, waste recycling, measurement, testing and calibration and many others.
“As a result of the growing production in the petrochemical sector and the potential growth of the biotech industry in Thailand, the amount of waste generated from these industries will also multiply. At CIA and EnvironmexAsia & WatermexAsia, companies can kill two birds with one stone and treat it as a one-stop sourcing ground for these relevant technologies,” said Tee Boon Teong, Project Director for Engineering Events, Singapore Exhibition Services.
