Lagos, Nigeria (eTurboNews) - Nigeria's flag carrier Virgin Nigeria, a joint venture between the Nigerian government and Charles Branson of Virgin Atlantic, has begun operation from Lagos to London Gatwick Airport (United Kingdom) and Johannesburg (South Africa).
The airline, according to a statement in Lagos, will be flying three times a week. From the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos to London Gatwick Airport on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays and return for Lagos from London on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
Virgin Nigeria chief Graham Keddie said, "We are delighted to be flying into London Gatwick and we see this as a good step in our effort to make travel more accessible to our customers whilst offering them a whole new experience."
Meanwhile, last week's Lagos to Johannesburg service marked the airline's second long-haul flight service. This flight service will leave Lagos on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays. Virgin Nigeria will return from South Africa to Lagos on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
Virgin Nigeria initially landed at Heathrow International Airport but has since moved to Gatwick airport because it could not secure appropriate slot at Heathrow.
