Bangkok--Dec 8--UNISBKK
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) will commemorate International Human Rights Day on 9 December at the UN Conference Centre in Bangkok.
The program features speeches and performances by young people and refugees. A screening of short animation films and documentaries to
showcase the vast array of work on human rights in the region, from tsunami projects to HIV/AIDS, will also be shown.
The programme includes special messages from the Secretary-General, the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Thai Government and the National
Human Rights Commission of Thailand.
"Pursuing security objectives at all costs may create a world in which we are neither safe nor free," says High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour.
The Regional Office for Asia-Pacific of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, with assistance from the UN Information
Services, is organizing the event. End.
