Bangkok--Dec 26--Deutsche Bank
Deutsche Bank has been named 'Bank of the Year' by prestigious financial magazine International Financing Review (IFR) Asia in its 2005 Awards. This is first time Deutsche Bank has won the award in Asia. Deutsche Bank was also named 'Bank of the Year’ in the IFR Global Awards, for the second time in three years.
Among the major award categories Deutsche Bank was named ‘Best Bond House' in Asia as well as Best Bond House, Structured Finance House and Derivatives House in the Global IFR awards.
Announcing the award IFR Asia this week wrote: "Deutsche Bank can plausibly claim to be the most important financial institution in the Asia Pacific. The bank is a leading presence in just about every market and asset class that Asia has to offer. In nearly everything it does it is either the best or up there with the best..."
Mr Colin Grassie, Deutsche Bank's CEO, Asia Pacific said: "This is a highly prestigious and strongly contested award each year within the financial industry. To be awarded Best Bank in Asia Pacific by IFR is testament to the outstanding financing, trading and advisory work undertaken for government and corporate clients in 17 local markets throughout Asia Pacific, including Thailand, in 2005.”
Mr Rags Raghavan, Chief Country Officer of Deutsche Bank Thailand, said 2005 was a watershed year for Deutsche Bank in Asia and Thailand.
“In 2005 Deutsche Bank consolidated its position as a leading investment bank in Thailand, offering local markets advice and execution across debt and equity financing; interest rate, credit, equity, foreign exchange and derivative trading; advice on mergers and acquisitions, as well as transaction banking products and services for cash management, domestic custody and trade finance.”
In Thailand Deutsche Bank helped to execute a number of landmark transactions throughout the year, including one of the largest ever high yield offerings to come out of the country to date - a USD 250 million 11% Senior Notes for the country’s leading integrated pulp and paper company Advance Agro Public Company Limited.
Deutsche Bank also won the mandate from Bank Thai to undertake the country’s first collateralised debt obligation transaction. This was also the first deal to be announced since the Bank of Thailand had introduced new regulations laying out the permissible structure and risk parameters of such investments.
Aside from winning house of the Year, the Bank was awarded leading Bond House in the region. In 2005 Deutsche Bank helped local governments and companies issue across the broad spectrum of credit ratings and currencies, from AAA-rated Temasek in Singapore to CCC-rated notes for Advance Agro in Thailand, to large dollar deals for the Republic of Indonesia and the Philippines and Euro transactions for companies such as Hutchison Whampoa and Korea Development Bank.
