Representatives of the Buddhist, Christian and Islamic faiths joined together in a chanting ceremony to send feelings of loving kindness and compassion for world peace on the evening of Saturday, December 31, 2005 in front of Amarin Plaza (Ratchaprasong Intersection). The event was organized to say farewell to the year 2005 and welcome prosperity in the New Year. Locals and tourists were filled with contentment as they observed the chanting by Buddhist monks from three sects (Dhrammayutta, Mahanikayya and Anumnikayya), Bangkok Church’s Chorus of Hope and Muslim clergy. All participants lit candles and sent their messages of peace and encouragement to people in distress around the world. The chanting was part of the “Art Wish” project, one of many activities at the “Art Market Goes Downtown” fair, which is being organized by Amarin Plaza in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture’s Office of Contemporary Art and Culture. It is being held at Amarin Plaza until January 15, 2006.
