The Bahamas Ministry of Tourism (BMOT) recently launched its "My Bahamas" campaign to encourage citizen ownership of the tourism product.
According to the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism, the multifaceted marketing campaign is a call to action for public participation and involvement in social, economic and environmental activities that will enhance the destination and result in sustainable economic benefits for every Bahamian, from hotelier to hair braider.
Adopting the tagline "Our Movement for Improvement," the Bahamas' new campaign runs simultaneously in the broader public domain and within the school system, BMOT said.
"The BMOT-produced TV program, 'Tourism Today,' connects directly with citizens in their homes to bring the latest developments to the forefront.
"Electronic, print, radio and TV ads and various community projects throughout the country support the 'My Bahamas' campaign.
"Additionally, the BMOT is utilizing Bahamian sports icons, entertainers and community leaders to carry the movement for improvement message to the general public.
"I think we all can agree that while we have a beautiful country there is more we could do to improve the product we currently offer to our visitors," Director-General of Tourism Vernice Walkine said. "The campaign is specifically designed to stimulate pride and interest in tourism and encourage Bahamians to get involved by spreading the message that building a better brand is everyone's business."
Half of all Bahamians derive their income from tourism, which generates 70 percent of the country's gross domestic product.
