Bangkok--Jan 18--SET
The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) is supporting Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Arts in producing a radio play entitled “Termite”, a play that signals upcoming dangers. The play is the translation of HRH Princess Mahachakri Sirindhorn aimed at helping people realize the importance of social responsibility.
SET Capital Market Education Division Chairman Mr. Punsak Vejanurug said that one of the SET’s five missions is to benefit Thai society and help the less privileged, as well as act as a role model in this area. Thus, the SET will provide financial support to Chulalongkorn University to produce this socially-conscious radio play, which is based on a translated script of HRH Princess Mahachakri Sirindhorn. 10,000 CD copies of this play will be widely distributed to Thai youth and the general public to help them realize the importance of showing social responsibility. The play will also serve to celebrate the silver jubilee of HRH Princess Mahachakri Sirindhorn, who turned 50 in 2005.
“The SET is delighted and honored to take part in the production of this radio play, as it will contribute greatly in instilling a better attitude in our youngsters. The gist of the radio play ‘Termite’ is to remind us that there are many dangers out there if we’re indifferent to other people’s troubles. These could be ‘quiet dangers’ that could destroy our society from the inside,” Mr. Punsak said.
The Dean of Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Arts, Professor Dr. Theraphan Luangthongkum, said that the “Termite” play is based on the radio play series entitled “Dreams” by Gunther Eich, a renowned German writer and poet.
“The Termite episode envisages the superficiality and hollowness of the people. It is as if society is being so nibbled by termites that their lives and everything become unstable and rotten. Therefore the play can lead people to think and make them more aware that everybody should be responsible for their society. The story is suitable for today’s world, either in the national or international context,” Prof. Dr. Theraphan said.
The 10,000 CD copies of the “Termite” play will be distributed to schools nationwide, to SET Corners at all participating institutions and at various events hosted by the SET’s Thailand Securities Institute.
