Following a meeting of concerned departments about the fire incident at THAI’s Catering Building, Suvarnabhumi Airport, Mr. Somchainuk Engtrakul, Member of the Board of Directors Acting as President, Thai Airways International Public Company Limited, said that an initial assessment was made to determine losses and to establish a recovery plan.
The initial assessment concluded that the fire began in the cold room on the first floor of the Production and Operations Unit, consisting a space of approximately 30 square meters, with architectural structure showing damage to the concrete and equipment such as ceiling, light fixtures, and electrical cords.
As for the recovery plan, the company has joined in cooperative effort with a team of engineer consultants and contractors to investigate the premises for damage assessment and recovery plan implementation. A plan was concluded for investigation on damage to the building.
Damage assessment and analysis will be based on engineering, to be complete within 1 week, clearly specifying methods to be used and estimated time allocation.
After the police complete their investigation of the area and conduct interviews and inquiries today (19 January 2006), the company and all those concerned will make a complete assessment of damages. THAI will coordinate with the company’s Insurance Department, representative of the Engineering Institute of Thailand, and engineer consultants that have sent experts to investigate the building concerned.
The company’s policy remains to have the Catering Building completely constructed and operational according to schedule. However, if the Catering Building is not complete as planned, the company will implement an alternate plan, which is to conduct meal production at THAI’s Catering Department in Don Muang and other processes such as inflight meal preparation will take place at THAI’s Catering Department at Suvarnabhumi Airport.
