Bangkok--Jan 20--DTAC
A repair work is underway to bring DTAC’s network back to normal again following a series of terrorist attacks on mobile phone networks across three southernmost provinces last night.
Chief Executive Officer Sigve Brekke said as part of its short-term measure to diminish the impact, the engineer team had already been down in the field to inspect the damage and to bring the network back to normal again as soon as possible.
DTAC reported that 125 of its base stations in Yala, Pattani, Narathiwat and two districts in Songkla were down last night.
“Some base stations have already been recovered and we will do everything we can to bring the whole network back to life again as soon as we can,” said Sigve
Out of the 125 damaged stations, around 15 to 20 were reportedly burnt and would need approximately three weeks to be up and running again. The rest were stations whose transmission was cut due to last night’s electricity blackout, of which 45 had been fixed and resumed its normal operation already while the remainders were being repaired and should be functioning again within today.
In the meantime, DTAC will extend its prepaid refill card’s validity period to compensate prepaid customers who have lost their signal connection after the incident and during the repair work.
“All of our prepaid customers in the affected areas will have their cards’ validity period automatically extended for 30 more days, effective as of today,” said DTAC’s Chief Commercial Officer Thana Thienachariya.
As for middle- and long-term plans, DTAC would step up on-site security efforts by installing 24-hour surveillance video camera on its base stations in the three southernmost provinces and will work closely with state agencies including military and ICT ministry to prevent reoccurrence of such incident in the future. End.
