Bangkok--Jan 23--SET
The Stock Exchange of Thailand’s (SET) Board granted THB3.5 million to the Mae Fah Luang University to develop teachers in Mathematics, Science, and English. The pioneer project will start in Feb. 06. In addition, the board allocated THB10 million for the “Uniting for 100 Years, 100 Million Goal” project of the Prince Royal College in Chiang Mai, to develop Thailand’s youth in every aspect, including learning, life skills, and moral behavior.
The SET announced that its board made several resolutions in its first meeting roadshow at Mae Fah Luang University in Chiang Rai Province, today (Jan. 20). First of all, the board resolved to support the Mae Fah Luang University project to develop the standards of education and teachers. There will be 60 teachers participating in this pioneer program.
The SET and Mae Fah Luang University jointly agree that there should be teacher development in Mathematics, Science and English so that the teachers will be better able to communicate course materials more effectively. The project will also help motivate teachers to work in remote areas, and thus benefit Thailand in the long run.
The model teacher project will have an initial pioneer phase in which 6 teachers (2 from each subject) from 10 schools will participate. The teachers will receive training in both financial management and critical thinking skills. Teachers who pass the test will be rewarded with support for their development. There will be an assessment after the program.
The SET also signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Mae Fah Luang University to participate in the SET’s university networking program. Mae Fah Luang University is the 12th academic institution the SET has signed an MOU with since 2003.
The SET’s board also resolved to allocate THB10 million to the “Uniting for 100 Years, 100 Million Goal” project of the Prince Royal College in Chiang Mai. The school has outlined the project and activities clearly to develop Thailand’s youth as well as its teachers, parents and the general public to perform better in education, sports, and public morality.
The SET places a great importance on social responsibility and will continue to play an important role in this area. In 2006, acting as a socially responsible role model for the country has been added to the SET’s missions. The SET will continue to organize social and youth development activities for the sustainable benefit of all.
