Ample Communications Introduces RoHS Compliant, Lead-Free MACs
Environmentally friendly ICs meet new standards set by the European Union
Ample Communications, a leading provider of communications silicon for wire line network systems, today announced the availability of a fully RoHS-compliant version of its Harrier family of 10/100/1000 Ethernet MACs, which meet the European Union's (EU) directive entitled "Restrictions on the use of Hazardous Substances (RoHS)" 2002/95/EC. Ample is in full compliance with the EU's guidelines and is wholly committed to promoting a cleaner world for the future.
The Ample team implemented the conversion of its Harrier family well ahead of the July 2006 deadline in order to meet specific requirements from key
customers shipping large quantities of 1GE port. With this lead-free solution, Ample will continue to foster its current international customer relationships as well as develop additional ones after the July deadline takes effect. The company is also now well prepared when similar requirements in Japan, China and U.S. take place.
"By converting our MACs ahead of schedule, we can continue to offer a full product portfolio that meets the needs of our customers selling into global markets.
Now customers can convert their equipment early in order to be prepared for the July deadline," said Manuel Yuen, vice president of operations for Ample Communications. "We are fully supportive of the various efforts to phase out the use of hazardous materials in the semiconductor industry which will help to alleviate the increasing worldwide environmental concerns."
The EU's RoHS directive bans the use of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) in electrical and electronic products sold in the European Union
beginning July 1, 2006.
RoHS complaint 10/100/1000 Ethernet MAC devices are available now. The 12
port Harrier-12 devices can be ordered under part number A2510R-B4, and the 24 port Harrier-24 devices can be ordered under part number A2510R-B4.
