Thai Dairy Industry Co., Ltd. has entered into a Baht 500 million joint-venture agreement with the Netherlands-based Campina International to expand and advance their dairy production base in Thailand.
A new company, TDI Campina Co., Ltd., will oversee the new production facility to produce UHT and pasteurized milk products in Bang Pa-In Industrial Estate, Ayuthaya province.
General Narong Charusreni Chairman of Thai Dairy Industry Co.,Ltd., said the new joint production facility in Ayuthaya will be equipped with the latest technology that is as highly sophisticated as that in the Netherlands, thanks to Campina’s technical know-how. The new plant has a production capacity of 131 million liters a year.
The Thai Dairy Industry is know for its leading dairy products including condensed milk (Mali, Orchid, Birdwings), UHT milk (Mali), butter (Orchid), and coconut cream (Hawaii); whereas Campina’s famous brands include Campina, Yazoo, Chokchai, and Alaska.
The joint-venture will help lower production costs and increase the quality of dairy products. Consumers in Thailand and neighboring countries in the Indochina region will enjoy better quality milk products and more choices of related fresh and long-life milk products. The new production plant will largely serve local demand with some products prepared for export.
The production of Thai Dairy Industry and Campina’s UHT and pasteurized milk products will be moved to the new plant, which is expected to be fully functional by the middle of this year.
Mr. Justinus Sanders, Chairman of the Executive Board of Campina BV, said the joint-venture in production is Campina’s first in Southeast Asia because Campina believes in the capability of Thai Dairy Industry Co., Ltd., its production expertise, and the market growth in the region.
TDI Campina will become a strong and prominent industry leader in Thailand, he said. “The new production expansion will help strengthen both Thai Dairy Industry and Campina. Their production capability will be considerably increased to serve existing orders and new orders. Campina will support the new production with innovation, experience, and product development ideas to enable the joint-venture company to compete in the world market. Also, the collaboration will result in a better variety of milk products such as cheese, butter, yogurt” Mr. Sanders said.
Campina is active in manufacturing ingredients for the food industries and other milk related products from its base in Europe and is also expanding to a select number of Southeast Asian countries. In Thailand, Campina took over Parmalat Thailand in March 2004 and formed a joint venture with Vinamilk in Vietnam in March 2005.
