Nokia maintains strong global device market leadership in 2005
Key leadership strategies lead to “Live Connected, Enrich Your Life” in 2006
Nokia continued to be the clear leader in the global mobile device market in 2005 and vows to maintain its leadership in 2006 in Thai market through its leadership strategies and commitment to maintain brand preference while offering new mobile communication experience under the “Live Connected, Enrich Your Life” concept.
Mr. Bob McDougall, Managing Director — Customers and Market Operations, Nokia (Thailand) Ltd., said, “Nokia believes in “Connecting People” and this is the key success factor contributing to our high brand preference and strong leadership position. Connecting People will continue to be the compass that leads us in the future. We will help consumers live connected while enjoying enriched life through Nokia’s wide range of leading-edge technology and innovative products as well as our effective distribution channels.”
In 2005, Nokia remained the unbeatable leader in the global mobile device market. The company gained 34% share in the global market in the final quarter 2005 and became the clear leader in Europe, Asia Pacific, China, Middle East and Africa.
In Thailand, Nokia continued to enjoy strong leadership position in the market. Its ability to maintain great product portfolio that meets diversified consumers’ needs in terms of function, design and total communications solutions, provide sufficient and relevant supports for network operators, and improve distribution strategy are key contributors to Nokia’s success in the past year.
For 2006, Nokia will focus on three key leadership strategies namely maintaining leadership position, maintaining brand preference and strengthening technology leadership.
To maintain leadership position, the company will focus on distribution and retail shops development to ensure consumers easy access to its products. To maintain brand preference, Nokia will continue its heritage of bringing the widest range of innovative products with leading-edge technology, different form factors, attractive designs and different price ranges. Consumer experienced-base activities will remain in focus to enable consumers to feel and experience the benefits of new technology by themselves. Such marketing activities will complement the remaining key strategy of strengthening technology leadership.
“This year, our technology leadership will become clearer and more tangible. New Nokia products to be launched this year will feature rich multimedia functionality. In the mobile phone category, the Nokia 3250 and Nokia 6280 will be the spearhead. For the multimedia category, our Nseries products including the N71, N80 and N91, offer enriched experience enabled by converged digital technologies like mobile imaging, music and games. The enterprise solution category will be led by the E60, E61 and E70 models that will help improve organizational and individual performance in their professional and personal lives,” added Mr. McDougall.
Nokia will also continue to work closely with business partners and alliances in various digital industries to develop and offer more innovative mobile multimedia services and content under its total product offering strategy.
“This year, Thai consumers will find a lot more exciting mobile communications technologies, services and content, using Nokia’s innovative products with rich mobile multimedia applications and content such as mobile music and mobile email. New mobile entertainment experience and uninterrupted connection are waiting ahead. Enterprise customers will also find more mobile office solutions to choose from,” stated Mr. McDougall.
Major mobile solutions are mobile imaging such as direct print from mobile phones, mobile music under which consumers can enjoy their favorite albums and buy music regardless of places and time, mobile e-mail where consumers can check and have access to their work and personal e-mails from their mobile devices, mobile games which will be available in many more Nokia products apart from the Nokia mobile gaming device, and advanced voice where fixed and mobile network are converged for enhanced work performance.
Another key strategy is customer experience based marketing activities, which have already proven success in the past year. Nokia will expand and arrange such activities throughout the year to allow consumers nationwide to discover and experience the benefits of rich mobile communications technologies by themselves.
