Bangkok--Feb 9--Francom Asia
For five wonderful weeks, from February 9 to March 12, 2006, lovers of music, opera, dance, theatre, and all other art forms will converge in Hong Kong to be filled with dazzle, delight and diversity.
Embarking on its 34th year, the Hong Kong Arts Festival is ready to enchant audiences from around the world with its eclectic performances by world-renowned artists from the local and international scenes, whose diversity and extraordinary contributions promise a unique taste of Hong Kong’s rich cultural life.
Outstanding tributes: from Mozart to Ray Charles, to Antonio Carlos Jobim
In 2006, the Festival is designating a number of opera, orchestra and ensembles to honour Mozart’s 250th birth anniversary. Don Giovanni by the Semper Opera Dresden and Nuremberg Opera Houses, and the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, under the baton of visionary music director Ivan Fischer, are among the favorite performances for this Festival.
Contemporary jazz guitarist John Scofield will display the talents of R&B master Ray Charles, while Latin and Brazilian jazz will whisk you off as Paquito D’ Rivera with the New York Voices sizzles up the tempo. Acclaimed Afropop singer and songwriter, Salif Keita, will present traditional Western African music with his beguiling voice and contemporary arrangements.
Family Favourites
The Festival has also included exciting performances that will delight viewers of different generations. The graceful interpretation of Beauty and the Beast by the Birmingham Royal Ballet, Eva Yerbabuena Ballet Flamenco in Eva, and Circus Ronaldo’s pizzeria and hilarious acrobatic stunts call for non-stop laughter should all figure in the family’s list, together with a recital from local pianist Lio Kuok Wai.
