The Land Rover G4 Challenge, an ultimate global adventure, is ready for a big set off in Bangkok on 23 April 2006, before progressing into what is probably the most rewarding adventure competition. Spanning 4 countries, 4 stages and 4x4 driving, this 4-week adventure challenge will have competitors from 18 countries testing their limits under extreme conditions.
Mr. Richard Haigh, President of Land Rover Thailand said, “The Land Rover G4 Challenge is a tough 4x4 driving and global multi-sport adventure competition that runs along stunning urban and remote locations. The Challenge is as much a test of intelligence, initiative and team spirit as physical fitness and driving ability. The event is about energy, excitement and most of all, fostering a "Because You Can" attitude. It portrays the Land Rover brand as more forward looking, more accessible, more cosmopolitan and more dynamic".
"This is a great showcase of the performance and capabilities of our vehicles in some of the world’s toughest places and demonstrates the ‘spirit of adventure’ that Land Rover stands for.
The 2006 Land Rover Challenge is the second G4 Challenge after the great success of the one held in 2003. According to Nicola Davies, Event Director of the 2006 Land Rover Challenge, “The “G” in the G4 stands for “global”, while “4” represents the number of weeks, countries, competition stages, and time zones of the 2006 Land Rover G4 Challenge. It is a dynamic competition featuring 4X4 driving, mountain biking, kayaking, climbing, orienteering and abseiling. This time, it will be bigger and much tougher; definitely more exciting! All the 18 final competitors have been short-listed from thousands of adventure athletes all over the world.”
The Land Rover G4 Challenge begins on April 23, 2006 when Stage 1 gets underway amid the vibrant and exotic city surrounding of Thailand's capital, Bangkok. From Bangkok, the competitors will drive northeast across rural Thailand to the border of Laos where the two weeks of remote competitions within the steamy mountains and valleys around the Mekong River begins. The competition then transits to Brazil for Stage 3 of a spectacular activity amongst the beaches of Rio de Janeiro. It’s then on to the harsh conditions in the Andes mountain range of Bolivia, climbing to altitudes of over 4,000 meters above sea level. The event will reach a climax with the Challenge Finale, ultimate stage at a stunningly beautiful yet eerie environment the world's largest salt lake, the Salar de Uyuni. This will be the crucible from which a worthy winner will emerge on May 20.
With ancient temples and palaces nestled beneath modern skyscrapers, Bangkok provides the perfect backdrop for the start of the ultimate global adventure, the 2006 Land Rover G4 Challenge, which is a joint cooperation between Land Rover, the Tourism Authority of Thailand and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration. According to Mr. Kamron Chalermroj, Director of Events Planning Division, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, “Over the recent years the Thai government is
constantly supporting international sports activities, and hosting such a global event is very significant. Thailand is already one of the world’s major tourist destinations, but through the 2006 Land Rover G4 Challenge, the world will know what we offer as an adventure sports destination.”
Through the cooperation of The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, Bangkok’s Sanam Luang area, will be the launch pad of the 2006 Land Rover G4 Challenge kick-off, where over 60 Land Rover vehicles will converge for journey. “Rest assured that we will be doing our best to coordinate with all relevant government agencies so that the proceedings of the event run smoothly,” said Khunying Nathanon Thavisin, Permanent Secretary of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration.
“We are on the verge of building another unique brand experience. Through this event, we hope to further strengthen dealer and customer relationship, and build strong programs that enable us to share our corporate values with a wider audience. With the tangible step of "Experiential Marketing", after the 2006 Land Rover G4 Challenge, Land Rover Thailand will be arranging the Most Exciting Driving Experience Event for Land Rover customers in G4 Vehicles, starting from Luang Phrabang to Bangkok on May 5th."
"We will be giving our customers the great chance to enjoy and challenge urban and rural terrains with a full range of Land Rover vehicles, for them to truly experience the unique and original spirit of adventure that is characteristically Land Rover,” added Mr. Richard Haigh.
