Bangkok--Feb 16--Loxley Public Company
Dr. Somboon Sooksatra, a Managing Director of Thai Gateway Co.Ltd., (www.thaigateway.co.th) Bangkok, Thailand and Dr. Edward. A. McCulloch, a President of Daedalus Health Information Systems Inc., Virginia, USA signed for Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) to develop mutually beneficial programs and projects for GEOFLU at the local National Thai Government level. These programs and projects comprise part of the Thai Governments multiple use mission to serve the public. The mutual benefit for both parties is to commence cooperative projects by providing superior public service to the people of Thailand--with extension to world health.
Dr. Somboon said that Thai Gateway Co. Ltd. has committed to the collaborative implementation of GEOFLU, a worldwide reporting, tracking, and notification system that will focus initially upon avian influenza. GEOFLU will collect information regarding worldwide outbreaks of the potentially-pandemic disease and provide nearly instantaneous notification to other global participants and subscribers.
GEOFLU is a development of Daedalus Health Information Systems, Inc. (www.daedalushealth.com), a small company based in Alexandria, Virginia, USA. Daedalus developed GEOFLU based upon the architecture of its proposed, US public-sector project—National 922—developed to provide situational awareness regarding matters of concern involving the National Health Profile, including incidents of bioterrorism. National 922 was subsequently modified to include a flu-reporting line.
Worldwide reaction to possible pandemic influenza has involved intentions as closing borders, impeding international trade and travel, and possibly calling out the military in the United States. Thai Gateway and Daedalus will assist the Thai government with a relatively low-cost entrepreneurial approach that could make a significant contribution to world health that would surpass the often sluggish efforts of public sector projects. The fact is that the world is not prepared and, despite the best efforts of governments and public-sector organizations to address the problem, there is little, real-time situational awareness available. Situational awareness is considered an essential ingredient of informed response.
Implementation of GEOFLU will commence immediately with concentration upon the Electronic Triage portion of the project that will involve a science-based and physician-led assessment tool for individual reporting. Additionally, the system will receive reports from human and veterinary medical professionals and various sectors of the scientific community.
“In addition to being the local partner in Thailand, Thai Gateway has its associate company call "Space Imaging Southeast Asia Company Limited", which is located in Thailand and can delivered high quality satellite images from IKONOS System. This will help the operation in showing the real-time image of the the place that has an incident. Therefore, the place can been physically seen in advance before the rescuing team being there.” Dr.Somboon said.
Daedalus is collaborating with several notable industry and academic partners and technology providers to support the global influenza surveillance efforts. For more information, contact Thai Gateway Co. Ltd. or Daedalus Health.
