The brand new season returns to its international format with teams of two on the race of their lifetimes!
On your marks, get set Roadblock? Yes! The three-time Emmy Award winning reality adventure series, The Amazing Race, is back on AXN (Ch.19, UBC), the heart of action and adventure television, with its ninth season! Returning to the screens with its original blue-ribbon formula, this latest season will be all the rage, seeing 11 brand new teams of two, travel over 60,000 miles, across 5 continents, all on a quest for US$1 million dollars. Witness contestants dazzle or frazzle as they hurl every ounce of charm and wit against one another in order to emerge triumphant. The two-hour Asia Premiere of The Amazing Race 9 is on 1 March 2006 at 8pm. Subsequent episodes of one-hour duration will be aired every Wednesday at 9pm.
“We are very proud to bring the ninth season of The Amazing Race to AXN because it is the embodiment of the bold, action-packed AXN lifestyle,” says Ricky Ow, General Manager of SPE Networks - Asia. “The high energy levels and go-getting attitude portrayed parallel the AXN viewers’ daring spirit, and The Amazing Race provides them with an incredible sense of adventure.”
After a season which saw families of four competing for the one million dollar prize money, it is now up to the teams of two to again buckle up and brace themselves for the experience of a lifetime in the most enthralling race around the world, and who knows what crazy or grueling feat contestants will have to perform this time?
40-something year-old sisters Lori and Joni have lived apart for 20 years and are both over 6 feet tall! Both having an inclination to plastic surgery, they hope the race will help them make up for lost time, but would being loud and rambunctious be enough to make them the champions? Not if the self proclaimed cocky Jeremy and Eric can help it. The Florida natives describe themselves as very competitive and strong athletes, so will they stop at nothing to get their way?
Now, throw Fran and Barry into the mix. Married for over 40 years and having traveled over 45 countries, these sexagenarians are also not to be underestimated. Seemingly unassuming, they have every intention of utilizing their age and experience to their advantage. With this intriguing line-up of contestants, and a mysterious path that takes them to different exotic locations, what is not to be expected as teams try to map their way pass the cities, the locals, and each other?
Join the globetrotting reality adventure series host Phil Keoghan on The Amazing Race as more riveting Detours, Fast Forwards and Roadblocks are handed out at each new destination. On top of culture shock, language barriers, limited cash and little sleep, contestants will have to put up with bad luck, scheming taxi drivers, and faulty vehicles in a show where twists lie behind every turn and street corner.
So in a race around the world for US$1 million dollars, will contestants find themselves in a relationship stronger than ever as they overcome fears and obstacles together? Or will the escalating pressures of the race and constant bickering be enough to try, test, and break their initial bond? Tune in to AXN and find out on The Amazing Race 9!
