Bangkok 01 March 2006 - A record number of entries for the Sasin Asian MOOT CORP competition was announced at a press conference held at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Thailand (FCCT). Sasin Asian MOOT CORP 2006 is a region wide, new venture plan competition designed to reflect the challenges of the business world of today and a licensed part of the Global MOOT CORP competition. The winning team will go forward to represent Asia in the Global MOOT CORP finals in Texas.
Sasin Asian MOOT CORP is a new venture plan competition designed to reflect the challenges of the business world of today. Teams of students from graduate business programmes across Asia develop plans to set up, and run new ventures. The student teams competing in this year’s competition will present their plans in writing and orally to panels of independent judges — drawn from venture capitalists, management consultants, and successful entrepreneurs from across Asia.
Explaining how the Sasin Asian MOOT CORP 2006 differs from those of previous years, Professor Toemsakdi Krishnamra, Sasin Director said, ”This year we have expanded and developed the competition in two ways. First of all, we have specially organised the ‘Entrepreneurship: Engine for Asia’s Growth’ presentation to enhance the educational role of Sasin Asian MOOT CORP 2006. The presentation, which will be open to entrepreneurs, students, the media, and members of the public, will take place at the Stock Exchange of Thailand on 23 March 2006.
“Second, in the past, the same limited numbers of leading schools have been invited to attend, but this year we widened participation by creating a Summary Plan Round and contacted more than 80 Asian MBA programmes from more than 25 Asian countries. From a total of 29 applications, a record twenty teams from across Asia, including six from Thailand, will compete in the Sasin Asian MOOT CORP 2006 to be held from 23 - 25 March 2006 at Sasin.”
Mr. Chavalit Thanachanan, Chairman of the Judging Committee, Sasin Asian MOOT CORP 2006 added, “Another important element of the Sasin Asian MOOT CORP? competition is our well-balanced panels of judges. This year, we are honoured to welcome a strong caliber of judges from various professions such as venture capitalists, entrepreneurs and business people, all of whom are top executives in their organisations. In terms of nationality, our judges came from various sovereignties such as Hong Kong, Taiwan, India, Japan and the USA. All are entirely independent of Sasin.
“To ensure the utmost transparency and fairness of the Sasin Asian MOOT CORP competition, we have invited Grant Thornton (Thailand) Co., Ltd., one of the world’s leading public accounting firms, to act as the official score and time keeper and the announcer of all the results in each round. Grant Thornton will also be responsible for the place drawing of the Opening Round.”
Said Professor Phillip Braun, Chairman of the Sasin Asian MOOT CORP 2006 Committee, “The high level of interest in this year’s competition reflects the flourishing entrepreneurial spirit that clearly exists in the Asian region today. That spirit is especially important when continued economic growth is increasingly driven by innovation combined with sound business knowledge and skills.”
Public audiences are welcome to observe the Opening Round, Semi-final Round and Final Round which will be held from 24-25 March 2006 at Sasin’s Sasa Patasala Building, Chula Soi 12.
