Fortune Magazine's annual list of "Most Admired Companies", the most visible and respected barometer of corporate reputation, was published this week. EMC ranked #1 within its category "Computer Peripherals", up from #3 last year and #5 in 2004.
Fortune partners with the Hay Group every year to survey thousands of company executives, directors, and analysts to compile this ranking. Companies are ranked within their industries, and a separate list of The "Ten Most Admired" companies that covers reputation across all industries. Companies are judged on the following eight categories: Innovation, Employee Talent, Use of Corporate Assets, Social Responsibility, Quality of Management, Financial Soundness, Long-term Investment, and Quality of Products/Services. This year, industry respondents for "Computer Peripherals" not only ranked EMC #1 overall, but also ranked EMC #1 in all eight sub-categories.
Fortune places EMC in "Computer Peripherals" along with Seagate, Lexmark, Western Digital, Symbol Technologies, and Maxtor. Rankings for "Computer Peripherals" and "Computers" are EMC, Seagate, Technology, Lexmark, International, Western Digital, Symbol Technologies, Maxtor.
