Bangkok--20 Mar--Bangkok Bank
Bangkok Bank now offers three choices of low interest rate loans for companies to invest in energy saving technology.
The three loans are loans for Energy Saving Scheme, loans for installing natural gas for vehicles (NGV) system, and loans for energy saving for SMEs. They are a result of co-operation between Bangkok Bank and the Ministry of Energy, and PTT Public Company Limited, and are part of the bank’s program aimed at encouraging individuals and businesses, to save energy, respectively.
Last week, Bangkok Bank entered agreements with the government sector to support two energy saving projects. The first agreement, ‘Two billion baht loans for Energy Saving Scheme’, was signed on March 17 between the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE) and 11 banks including Bangkok Bank.
The second agreement, ‘Loans of seven billion baht for NGV’, was signed on March 18 between PTT Public Company Limited and eight banks including Bangkok Bank.
Under the first agreement, businesses can borrow up to 50 million Baht under this scheme from Bangkok Bank with a low interest rate capped at 4 percent per year. These are available to factories and buildings which meet the criteria set out in the Act of Energy Saving Promotion, general factory buildings, and companies in the energy management business, to invest in energy saving equipment.
Under the second agreement, loans will be issued to businesses and individuals who want to install systems in their vehicles to switch from petrol to the more economical option of NGV. Customers can borrow from Bangkok Bank to pay for the NGV support equipment, with a low fixed interest rate of 4%-5% for up to five years.
Mr. Chartsiri Sophonpanich, Bangkok Bank president, said the bank recognizes that the private sector needs to focus more seriously on energy saving due to a continued rise in oil prices, for its own benefit as well as for the nation as a whole.
“We are keen to work with other government agencies to offer similar benefits to businesses in need of capital. The bank continues to work with the government to organize initiatives that raise energy-saving awareness among businesses and the public,” Mr. Chartsiri said.
Bangkok Bank has also set up ‘Bualuang Energy Saving Project’ which provides knowledge and technology relevant to energy saving for SMEs. The bank also provides financial support under the ‘Bualuang Loan for Energy Saving Project’ offering each project with a low interest rate, for SMEs to invest in their energy saving projects.
