Bangkok--11 Apr--SET
The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives (BAAC), and Family Know-How Co., Ltd. (FKH) are collaborating to promote financial literacy at the household level. These three organizations will be distributing stories and learning media on a regular basis.
Chairman of the SET’s Capital Market Education Division, Mr. Punsak Vejanurug, said that after the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) between SET, BAAC, and FKH, these allied organizations would promote a savings culture and systematic market education. If this could be accomplished, Thai households would have excess income, and be able to put their savings to work, leading to re-investment and encouraging both national and household economic growth.
“Savings and financial planning are life skills everyone should have as a top priority, as they lead to a more stable life. This collaborative effort between the 3 organizations will promote these skills more widely. The SET’s role will be to produce and publish BAAC’s work, including learning materials such as the “household income and expenditure book”. Farmers who are BAAC’s customers will therefore gain knowledge and adapt these financial skills to their daily lives,” Mr. Punsak said.
The CEO of FKH, Mr. Vichate Tantiwanich, said: “FKH is very pleased to distribute stories produced by BAAC on ‘Money Channel’. In addition we will install satellite dishes at BAAC branches across the nation, so that BAAC customers and others can conveniently view the programs at these branches.”
BAAC President Mr. Thiraphong Tangthirasunan said, “BAAC is very pleased to join forces with the SET and FKH, as these organizations play an important role and put a high priority on education. Collaborating with the SET and FKH will strongly encourage BAAC’s clients, who are a majority of the nation’s population, to save and plan their finances. This collaboration will provide access for people in remote areas to crucial knowledge and skills, which they can then adapt to best suit themselves and their families.”
As well as distributing materials, BAAC and FKH have conducted a joint BAAC-FKH Money Channel Poll to assess farmers’ financial habits. The poll also included farmers’ views on the economic policies and conditions which affect them.
