First, ‘Torso of a boy’ statue representative of art work from Roman & Greek period reflects the beauty of human body and it gives a good idea of the high classical style developed in Athens during the second half of the fifth century B.C. — a period considered the high points of artistic accomplishment. Furthermore, the viewers can admire gorgeous collection from Egypt. For instance, ‘Mayet’s Gold Bead Necklace’ is based on the one belonged to Mayet, a royal girl during the reign of Nebhepetra Metuhotep, the founder of the 11th dynasty. Another eye-catching Egyptian art is ‘Ram’s head’ pendant, which is not only an accessory, but also an amulet. In ancient Egypt, the ram or the sheep was sacred to the great god Aman, principal god of the kings of Egypt. The original pendant is believed to be one of three pendants that formed part of a necklace belonging to King Nubian during 800 B.C.
For the Modern World Era, the exhibition will feature the work during “Impressionism” period (1874 — 1886). First, the work of famous French artists can be admired in the form of beautiful postcards, such as ‘Horse Racing’ and ‘The Ballet Dancers of the Paris Opera’ of Edgar Degas and delicate flowers and remarkable scenery painting of Claude Monet and Vincent Van Gogh.
Oriental art from China and Japan also plays an important part in the world of art. For instance, ‘The Great Wave at Kattagawa’ by Katsushika Hokusai is one of the most enduring images from this important era in Japanese art. The picture shows the monumental ocean surge in the foreground dwarfing the magnitude of the peak behind. More importantly, the oriental art had strong influence in European art, such as a large variety of the table services and objects for home d?cor embellished with motifs of “Exotic” Asian flora and fauna. Chinese porcelain was also produced expressly for export to the West as early as the 16th century, prized for its whiteness, thinness of body and translucency. Plum Blossom teapot from Yongzheng (1730 — 40) to Qianlong (1723 — 95) periods will be one fine example.
Furthermore, many other reproduced masterpieces, such as scarves, neckties, photo frames, books and CDs, can be found. Exclusively for the customers who purchase more than 5,000 baht will receive 20% discount.
