Taiwanese boy band sensation F4 discuss the price of fame, taking time off to do solo work, hitting the US market and launching their new album in CNN’s TALK ASIA this weekend. Jerry Yen, Vic Zhou, Ken Zhu and Vanness Wu join Lorraine Hahn in the special half-hour interview airing around the world.
When asked if they see themselves as colleagues or brothers, Vanness Wu jokes “We’re more like partners!”. Jerry Yen then reveals that F4 has bonded and become “a small family”. He adds “Ken is more like the mother, Vic is like the cute lovable little brother. And Vanness, he’s the serious and hardworking father”.
On F4’s huge fame, Vanness Wu suggests, “In Asia you really have to have a clean image. But we are only human, and we just try to do our best and try to live, you know, a proper and right life that is for us”. The band members have learned to live with the loss of privacy that comes with fame and are consistently motivated by their huge fan base.
As for what the future holds, Ken Zhu discusses what life may be like after F4, while Vanness Wu adds that “…my dream, my ambition…I really want to break into acting in America, so it’s hard because Asians as a whole, we do get typecast and stereotyped, especially in America.”
The band, who inspire media and fan frenzy across Asia, then discuss their forthcoming album. Compared to their previous release, Vanness Wu suggests, “I think our vocals have improved since then!”.
