Bangkok--3 May--SET
The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) and its subsidiaries, in conjunction with Securities Analysts Association (SAA) plan to hold the ‘Young Researcher Competition 2006’ (YRC 2006) from July to December. Aimed at developing quality analysts, the competition will grant prizes and scholarships valued at over THB 6 million to undergraduate and graduate students.
SET Chairman of Capital Market Education, Mr. Punsak Vejanurug, said that YRC 2006 would be co-hosted by SET and SAA, with support from Thailand Securities Institute (TSI), Market for Alternative Investment (mai), SETTRADE.Com Co., Ltd., and Money Channel.
“YRC, first held last year, encourages undergraduate (juniors and seniors) or graduate students from any field of study to join. They will have the chance to be trained, tested, and produce quality research reports. They will learn and gain a great deal from the program, especially if they wish to pursue a career as security analysts,” Mr. Punsak said.
SAA Chairman Dr. Komgkiat Opaswongkarn said that YRC 2006 would be held with the collaboration of organizations in the Thai capital market concerned with human resources, which helps strengthen the market’s development, and that the competition would help to establish a systematic approach to training analysts before they graduate and enter the industry.
“SAA will provide a session entitled, ‘On the Road to Becoming Analysts’ in which students will learn how to search for data, interview executives, write reports, as well as visit the companies they are researching. In addition, leading analysts representing SAA will act as YRC 2006 judges,” Dr. Kongkiat said.
The President of mai, Mr. Chanitr Charnchainarong, added that YRC 2006 will create young-blood analysts and will benefit mai, investors, and entrepreneurs, as there will be more reports covering mai stocks, thereby increasing market attractiveness.
Benefits for participating students in YRC 2006 include comprehensive training and workshops conducted by TSI and SAA, company visits, training, and a certification exam for the Single License, training and sitting for the Certified International Securities Analyst (CISA) Level 1 exam, scholarships for the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) exam, cash prizes, and study tours overseas collectively worth over THB 6 million.
