DTAC launches new package as a solution to network congestion
Free calls to five selected DTAC numbers, 24 hours
DTAC today kicks off what it calls a short-term solution to current, ongoing cross-network difficulty by allowing its postpaid customers to make free calls to five selected DTAC numbers, around the clock.
DTAC’s Chief Executive Officer Sigve Brekke says the new package is to ensure that customers are given an alternative to stay connected while cross-network connection has yet been fully recovered.
He says the cut-throat-competition has led mobile operators to play more on price promotion campaigns, which in turn, caused a traffic congestion across all networks. Although enjoying cheaper rates, users have experienced several calling difficulties. The new package, therefore, is viewed as a way out for customers to be in touch with their peers and loved ones.
Sunti Medhavikul, Chief Customer Officer of DTAC, adds that although all major mobile phone operators have been restlessly trying to expand their direct links to support the rising traffics, it will take some times before the cross-network connection will be back to normal. Recognising the situation, DTAC has decided to launch the new package to put its customers at ease and make their daily communications more convenient.
He believes that the new campaign will meet the needs of its target users, including students and first jobbers. The company’s customer behavior studies show that over 70 percent of the targeted customers are those who frequently use a phone to call up to five numbers of their closed friends. And it is this group that shows a tendency to convert to use the same mobile operator if they are proposed with reasonable charging that comes along with the good network quality.
“We dare to kick off this new package today because we have full confidence in our network. We have never stopped expanding and enhancing our network coverage and capacity over the past two years. For this year, we have set to invest another 12 billion baht to install 1,500 base stations. DTAC is also the only operator that provides service guarantee to customers who experience drop calls. Our on-network capacity is also able to handle up to 12 million numbers simultaneously."
For 299 baht a month, the new ‘ZAD’ package allows customers to make free calls to five selected DTAC numbers, postpaid and prepaid, 24 hours. Calls to other networks cost 3 baht for each of the first two minutes and 0.25 baht per each subsequent minute. As a special offer, users can also send SMS at Bt2 per message, MMS at Bt5 and the use of GPRS at Bt1 per minute. In addition, they can send the Pop-Pop voice message service with no limit for 1 month plus receiving monthly fee exemption for using Ring4U service for 1 month.
DTAC will also organise a series of road shows to promote the new package at universities, educational institutes and all targeted areas.
