Canon launched a big feast for digital camcorder enthusiasts of all skill levels with the 7 brand-new models, DC40, DC100, MVX460, MVX430, MV960, MV940 and MV920, all come with DVD and mini DV recording formats, extensive range of superior video and camera features, as well as small and lightweight body.
Mr. Warin Tantipongpanich, Director and General Manager, Consumer Imaging and Information Division, Canon Marketing (Thailand) revealed that “today video camcorder is doing very well in the list of people’s top favorite portable devices. New models of camcorder are smaller, easier to operate and more versatile. Video footage editing can be done easily in the device itself - no longer a task limited to only professional videographers. The transfer of video file to various types of media or recording on CD can be finished in just a few button clicks. Further, the more popularity of broadband internet and wireless technologies allows fast and convenient distribution of video files on various devices like mobile phones and PDAs.”
The new 7 digital camcorders feature Canon’s proprietary DIGIC DV imaging processor and true high-resolution 16:9 widescreen video recording for superb video and stills recording quality and experience. Hence, what consumers get are videos made for widescreen, not just adapted for widescreen. These camcorders incorporate large 2.7-inch bright widescreen LCD and joystick operation that allows full control of basic camcorder functions. Other well-rounded camera features include several scene modes for different shooting conditions and 9-point AiAF for fast and accurate focusing of off-centre subjects.
Unique features of the 7 digital camcorders are as follows:
DC40 — offers you superb quality videos and stills with the powerful performance of 4-megapixel resolution for still images and 3.5-megapixel for video. Smallest and slimmest in its class, DC40 features 6 special scene modes for professional image shooting under different shooting conditions. Still images can be recorded on mini SD card and DVD-R/-RW disc. Bundled Roxio MY DVD software provides DVD authoring function for editing footage, making chapters/DVD menu and DVD duplication.
DC100 — an entry level DVD camcorder that caters to all needs of first-time users. Superb zoom performance with 25x optical zoom and 1000x digital zoom for movies only, and 8 special scene modes for optimal photo taking under different conditions.
MVX460 and MVX430 — created with Canon’s “Stream Surface” design philosophy, these two camcorders weigh only 370 grams and feature 1.33-megapixel CCD sensor and 20x (MVX460) /18x (MVX430) optical zoom lens. Versatile camera functions include twin white LED lights for improved shooting under dark conditions, 8 special scene modes, electronic image stabilizer for minimizing camera shake during recording and simultaneous capture of stills during video recording.
MV960, MV940 and MV920 — minimal design in metallic color scheme with 800,000 pixel resolution, powerful 25x optical zoom plus variable zoom speed for more flexibility to capture the mood desired during video recording and 8 special scene modes. MV960 and MV940 allow simultaneous capture of stills during video recording.
Mr. Warin finally revealed the marketing direction for Canon digital camcorder in 2006 that: “As with other digital imaging product lines, we are gearing more toward lifestyle-oriented events and activities to better reach target audiences, with a series of seminars and workshops specially devised to tap the needs of modern consumers.
