Ed Zander, Motorola, Inc. chairman and chief executive officer was in Thailand for his first ever visit to re-affirm Motorola’s commitment to Thailand and communicate his vision of seamless mobility.
His one-day stop in Thailand was part of a five-day long Asian tour during which Zander had visited Motorola’s high-growth markets in the region including Malaysia, Singapore and Vietnam. While in Thailand, he met with dignitaries from the Chaipattana foundation, the Ministry of ICT and key Motorola customers.
“As a high-growth market, Thailand is a priority for Motorola in the region. The high acceptance of Motorola products here is helping Thai people realize their human potential through the power of technology,” said Zander at a meeting with the Thai press. “I am also delighted with what I have seen and heard about the progress that is being made by Thailand’s telecoms industry. Embracing new communications technologies, such as 3G and WiMAX, will help the Kingdom move towards a future where Thai people can connect, communicate and enjoy content anytime, anywhere, regardless of what device they’re using or what network they’re on. At Motorola, we call this vision ‘Seamless Mobility,’” Zander added.
Zander’s visit to Thailand follows a year of record sales for Motorola both globally and in the local market. In 2005 Motorola reported record worldwide sales of $36.84 billion, up 18 percent compared with 2004, and earnings per share from continuing operations of $1.82 per share, up 102% versus 2004. Meanwhile, Motorola’s sales figures in Thailand went up by a record 84% during the same period and the number of units shipped was up by 74% compared to the previous year. The trend of the preceding years had been of high growth for Motorola, but 2005 clearly set records.
“Judging by sales figures so far, we expect 2006 to be another great year for Motorola in Thailand. Through initiatives such as the launch of the first Motorola flagship store in Thailand, scheduled to open next month in Bangkok, we are re-affirming our commitment to offer products that empower Thai people’s mobile lives at work, at home and at play,” said Chirdsak Kukiattinun, managing director of Motorola (Thailand) Ltd.
Since starting operations in Thailand more than 36 years ago, Motorola’s mobile communications have gained in popularity and are widely used throughout the country in applications including Thailand's air force, border controls, emergency services, airport management and by the general public. Motorola is positioning its businesses in Thailand to develop next generation markets with integrated communications solutions.
