Synnex today announced the launch of locally branded and built-to-order (BTO) mobility solutions based on Intel technology in Thailand. The launch of this new mobility solution is part of Intel’s initiative to accelerate mobile PC adoption by driving industry-wide standards for notebook ingredients.
Synnex (Thailand) Ltd. Managing Director, Mr. Puttipan Techarachakul, disclosed that Synnex launched the first BTO notebooks through the company’s distribution channels nationwide in 2004. “The response has been very positive and the market is growing fast due to increasing mobile computer adoption,” he said. “This is why Synnex is pleased to work with Intel to provide BTO notebooks using Common Building Blocks to consumers in Thailand. The Verified by Intel? (VBI) program is essential to the success of this initiative.”
For the past few years, Intel has been working with world-class component suppliers to drive common notebook components, commonly known as CBBs (Common Building Blocks). Verified by Intel? is an Intel-led initiative with three notebook ODMs (original design manufacturers) to improve the ecosystem for mobile products, and bring to market notebook barebones that better meet the needs of resellers and systems integrators.
Suppliers Quanta, Asus and Compal have begun manufacturing these notebook barebones that have been verified by Intel for interchangeability across seven components: hard drives, optical drive, keyboard, battery, LCD screen, customizable notebook panels, and AC adapters. Compliance with these mechanical and electrical specifications ensures interchangeability across different notebook platforms from different suppliers. Intel? Channel Partner Program members in Thailand will be able to purchase these barebones and interchangeable components through Synnex, and integrate them with Intel and third party hardware and software.
The launch of 11 new BTO notebooks by Synnex is supported by a broad ecosystem ranging from product design and manufacturing, to distribution and post-sales support. Synnex today introduces the 3 latest models of its BTO notebooks with CBBs features. The new models of BTO notebook include 1) S62J with 14.1-inch LCD display, WXGA Glare type , built-in 0.35m webcam and nVidia GeForce Go6400 2) S62Fp with 14.1-inch LCD display, WXGA Glare type 3) SW1 with 14.1-inch LCD display, WXGA Non-Glare type. The platform being launched is based on Intel? Centrino? Duo mobile technology, which provides a major leap in performance and graphics, and enables improved battery life and smaller form factors for laptops.
“Energized by the spread of wireless technology and the growing popularity of mobile computing, the overall market for notebook PCs is increasing in Thailand,” said Intel Microelectronics (Thailand) Ltd. Area Sales Manager, Mr. Sontiya Nujeenseng. “Mobile is a huge opportunity for channel and we are confident that Synnex will be instrumental in driving the success of these CBB notebooks in Thailand.”
The collaboration announced today is another step towards building a strong foundation for the BTO notebook. Synnex and Intel have worked steadily toward this goal--continuously hosting activities in Bangkok and the provincial marketplace, such as the Commart exhibition.
