Etihad Airways has announced plans to fly to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia’s second largest city that is strategically situated on the Red Sea coast of the kingdom’s western province.
The service operates three times a week between Abu Dhabi and the King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah.
“Etihad Airways is delighted to be adding Jeddah to our global network. Etihad has been flying to Riyadh and Dammam since December 2004, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia represents a very important market for us. Etihad is proud to once again be bringing the great nations of the Arabian Gulf closer together,” said HH Dr. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saif Al Nahyan, chairman of Etihad Airways.
Etihad will fly to Jeddah throughout the year, which will be especially popular during the annual Hajj season. Saudi Arabia, as custodian of the two holy mosques in Mecca and Madinah, is a key focus for the world’s Muslim community — and every year over two million pilgrims travel through Jeddah to take part in the important religious festival.
“The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the UAE share historic ties on many levels. The launch of Etihad’s new service to Jeddah, its third to the Kingdom, reflects the depth of these relations and ties, and emphasizes our mutual policy in coordinating and communicating in all important issues between our two countries and out people,” said HE Dr. Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz Bin Moammar, Saudi Ambassador to the UAE.
“The Hajj is one of the most significant passages of rite for a Muslim, and therefore the UAE’s national airline takes immense pride in offering a service to Pilgrims who will make the journey,” continued the Chairman.
Etihad Airways will operate either of its brand new state-of-the-art Boeing 777-300 ER and Airbus 330-200 aircraft on the new route.
“Etihad Airways is becoming synonymous with hospitality, and comfort is offered throughout Etihad’s fleet of aircraft. Each Zone has been meticulously designed to meet Guests’ requirements, and this is underlined in the Pearl zone where the seats recline 180 degrees into a flat and comfortable bed,” concluded the chairman.
From 1 July 2006, the service will operate every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, with EY 402 departing Bangkok at 21:00, stop at Abu Dhabi to transfer to EY 725 arriving in Jeddah at 14:45pm.
