“Sagitate (Thailand)” joins hands with “Invensys Wonderware Corporate” to grant industrial automation software worth up to 100 million baht to 10 public universities in Thailand. It is expected this support will increase human resources in the field to meet with the growing Thai industry in the future.
On 7 July 2006, His Excellency Pol. Gen. Chidchai Wannasathit, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice, presided over the launch of a joint campaign between Sagitate (Thailand), Invensys Wonderware Corporate and 10 universities. The campaign aims to support institutes with the granting of software for Thai students, as they will become the main force of Thai industrial sector in the future.
Mr. Somkiat Sintujai, Managing Director of Sagitate (Thailand) reveals that the company and Wonderware Corporation have been aware about the lack of human resources in the field of industrial automation in Thai Industries. This is why they intend to grant the ‘Wonderware’ software, which has the commercial value of up to 99.9 million baht, for no costs to 10 public educational institutes. This is aimed to benefit Thai students who are expected to be the valuable assets to the future of Thailand’s Industrial sector.
The 10 educational institutes that will receive the software are: Chulalongkorn University, Kasetsart University, Thammasart University, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology North Bangkok, King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi Klonghok Rangsit, Rajamangala University of Technology Suvarnabhumi, Silpakorn University and Pathumwan University of Technology.
Mr. Somkiat added that the ‘Wonderware’ software is the technology which has an important role and it is being used widely in various industries across the world. However, there is still a problem of shortage in skilled human resources in this field of technology in Thailand as the number is insufficient to meet the demand of the growing industry. Because the software is considerably expensive, it is difficult for Thai educational institutes to find and install such software for teaching purposes. Hence, university students who later become key players in different industries tend to lack this required skill and knowledge.
“The company will bring the software along with the software experts to conduct field-training for lecturers in the 10 universities. Students who have been trained of this essential skill, can immediately start working for various industries once they graduate from their universities” said the Managing Director of Sagitate.
Managing Director of Sagitate (Thailand) also reveals that the campaign originated from the concern of the shortage of software at the educational institutes. The granted software will be a teaching tool or training equipment for the universities’ laboratories.
