People from Phuket and surrounds are invited to visit the fair: “Bonds for the People #1: Secure Saving, Gain from Investing”. The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET)’s Bond Electronic Exchange (BEX) is confident that activities such as this, on Saturday July 8, are effective in educating people and attracting more investors from the provinces.
The event, aimed at raising people’s financial consciousness, is part of BEX’s strategy to expand its retail investor base nationwide. This year the Exchange is planning other provincial road shows in Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen, and Chonburi, BEX CEO Mr. Santi Kiranand, PhD., stated.
“Bonds are suitable for people wishing to earn regular returns at low risk. They should be included in a person’s financial planning, as an attractive alternative way to save for the future. .
“At the bond fair, visitors will learn about electronic trading of bonds, which allow an investor to instantaneously transmit an order to their securities company,” said Dr. Santi.
The fair is a co-hosted by BEX, Bank of Thailand (BOT), and Thai Bankers’ Association (TBA).
“BOT regards bonds as a benefit to the people and supports this BEX activity. The Bank emphasizes the importance of savings and of understanding savings alternatives and tools. These debt instruments are not only low-risk and yielding a comfortable return, but are also tradable and can be conveniently turned into cash,” Senior Director of BOT’s Financial Markets and Reserve Management Department, Ms. Pongpen Ruengvirayudh, said.
”This Bond Fair complements our intention to establish a firm basis for family savings in Phuket. Well-planned and managed family savings underpin national economic prosperity,” added Ms. Wantana Meesaeng, Director of Phuket Provincial Treasury Office.
“Bonds for the People#1” will include seminars on the Thai bond market, how to invest in government and other bonds, and the value of bonds in a climate of rising interest rates.
Visitors to the fair will have an opportunity to actually experience bond trading, and learn about the services of commercial banks. The first 200 people registering to attend an event or seminar will receive a free pocket book on bond investment, plus a T-shirt.
