Bangkok--13 Jul--EXIM Thailand
EXIM Thailand plays a vital role behind the success of Thai investors involved in the Doha Asian Games athletes village and resort construction projects in Qatar.
According to Dr. Narongchai Akrasanee, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors, Export-Import Bank of Thailand (EXIM Thailand), Power Line Engineering Public Company Limited (PLE), a Thai sub-contractor of the mechanical, electrical and plant (MEP) facilities development project in Qatar under EXIM Thailand’s support, represents a success story of a Thai business venturing abroad. The company has helped create jobs and income for both Thai and local labor forces while establishing good reputation for Thai construction companies in the Middle East. PLE was awarded the over-1.5-billion-baht MEP services project which is part of the Athletes Village Construction Scheme designed to cater for the 15th Asian Games to take place in Doha in December 2006. These villages will later on be transformed into Qatar’s new medical facilities called the Hamad Medical City. The project is now 97% complete.
EXIM Thailand also financed another MEP services contract granted to PLE under the Qatar’s Al Sharq Village Resort & Spa Project, worth over 1 billion baht. The project has reached over 60% completion.
Dr. Narongchai added that the Thai private sector’s success has showcased the potential and readiness of Thai contractors to engage in large-scale projects of international importance. As part of the collaborative support of the public sector and financial institutions, EXIM Thailand is fully prepared to render short- and long-term credit facilities as well as guarantee services to enhance the competitiveness of Thai investors overseas, particularly in the promising Middle East countries that are actively accelerating their infrastructure development.
