United Securities PLC (United) and Settrade.com (SETTRADE) have collaborated to develop “Japan Premium”, a Japanese-language website offering online trading intended to boost investment in 2007.
United has been trading online since 2000, and now has 1,100 participating accounts, putting it in 21st place among brokers in terms of trading value, United Securities PLC President Mr. Tatsuya Konoshita declared.
The Japanese language website, and the opening of a new branch office (Grand Park View on Asoke Road, Bangkok) in a popular Japanese business area, form part of the firm’s plans to expand its Japanese investor base in Thailand and Japan. The office will provide analysis and customer service teams comprised of Thai and Japanese staff, together with Thailand’s first locally licensed Japanese marketing officer.
“This service will be a new, easy and convenient option for Japanese who want to invest in Thai listed companies, and a market with great potential. We expect that this new service will significantly increase the value of our trade in 2007,” Mr. Tatsuya noted.
According to Board of Investment data, more than 32,000 Japanese were registered to work in Thailand in 2004, bringing with them investment of more than THB150 billion. This sector is an attractive market for the firm.
“Online investor numbers have risen by 50% - from 91,556 accounts as of end- 2005 to 136,977 accounts as of end-June 2006. The online trading turnover was THB 500 billion for all of 2005 and THB 270 billion in H1/2006. The upsurge is due to the ongoing promotion, through marketing and regular educational programs of internet-based investment,” SETTRADE Vice President of Marketing and Business Development Mr. Kirati Kosicharoen said.
United, one of 26 firms in SETTRADE’s online trading system, has attracted a high degree of investor attention as a convenient, reliable and efficient system for trading and staying up-to-date. United’s decision to develop a Japanese-language website www.unitedsec.com/jp is considered an innovative market expansion, attracting greater investment, and enlarging the Thai market’s foreign investor base. This will add more value to local investment, an especially important contribution, given Thailand’s relatively low securities prices and P/E ratio.
