Acer Computer Co., Ltd., ranking no.1 in notebook market for eleven consecutive quarters (2003 — present), announced higher-than-expected overall 53% growth of unit shipment (for both desktop and notebook segments). The company captured the highest share of 38% in notebook market, up 10% on a year-on-year basis, according to IDC. Acer is offering the e-InfoTainment package worth over 3,000 baht for notebook buyers.
Mr. Alan Chiang, General Manager of Acer Computer Co., Ltd., said, “According to IDC, Acer retained market leadership in the first quarter with 19% market share. We achieved higher-than-expected growth of more than 53% unit shipment on a year-on-year basis, and we continued to rank no. 1 in notebook with 38% market share, up 10% from the first quarter in 2005, and 12% more than the nearest competitor.”
During the first half of the year, Acer has not been significantly affected by external factors, including political situation, increased oil prices, and conflicts in the South. Consumer segment grows continuously as IT products are getting cheaper and more consumers have realized the importance of IT devices.”
“For the second half of the year, we believe that consumer segment will continue to grow, like the first half, as there are not any additional negative factors. Business and government segments may slow down, and those vendors who can maintain their strong position in consumer segment will ultimately become a real winner in IT market this year,” Mr. Chiang added.
Mr. Nitipat Praweenwongwuthi, Senior Manager, Marketing Department, Acer Computer Co., Ltd., said, “In the second half of the year, Acer will continue to be the first to deliver customer-centric innovations. The use of desktop and notebook PCs for daily tasks and personal entertainment tends to grow substantially this year, so we are offering the e-InfoTainment package worth more than 3,000 baht to all notebook buyers. This special package will enhance users’ entertainment experience.”
