Bangkok--21 Jul--SET
A contest, entitled “Smart Saving, Smart Spending”, using comic books to spread the message of clever saving and spending to children in the 9 — 12 years age group, was launched today. The contest is open to students, teachers, educational supervisors and other interested people. Applications will be accepted until February, 2007. The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), together with Amarin Printing and Publishing PCL, Nation Multimedia Group PCL, and Nanmee Books Co., Ltd., are co-sponsoring the event, SET Capital Market Education Chairman, Mr. Punsak Vejanurug said after the launch.
“2007 will be His Majesty the King’s 80th birthday anniversary, and so this contest, in accord with His Majesty’s ‘sufficiency economy’ concept, is to celebrate this auspicious occasion. It is my great pleasure to see three leading publishers continue to support our educational projects,” project working committee chairman Dr. Maruey Phadoongsidhi declared.
“We, being very pleased to support SET’s projects, are taking part in promoting “Smart Saving, Smart Spending” among children for the third consecutive year. Past projects produced a wealth of good reading for children and the general public also,” Amarin Printing and Publishing PCL Executive Editor Mr. Ong-art Jira-orn added.
“As Nation Multimedia Group’s producer and distributor of education-cum-entertainment materials for children, we know that comic books and similar media are very effective in helping children develop their creativity and thinking. They learn while playing. An advantage of the comic book is that it’s affordable, handy, can be read repeatedly, and shared among friends and relatives,” Managing Director of Nation Egmont Edutainment Co., Ltd., Ms. Nantaporn. Wongchestha, stated.
“The comic book contest is an imaginative project, providing an opportunity for writers and cartoonists to blend creativity and education, entertaining readers, naturally and clearly. Korea has found this strategy to be very successful,” Managing Director of Nanmee Books Co., Ltd, Ms. Suwadee Chongsatitwattana, noted.
Famous cartoonists and experts will be conducting a seminar to train and familiarize applicants with comic books as an educational tool.
The contest’s judging committee will be chaired by “Chai Rachawat”, a well-known cartoonist, who will be joined by children and family experts, illustrators, writers, artists and academics.
Interested persons are invited to submit their application personally, or by post, to the Comic Book Contest Project, at SET, by February 28, 2007.
