Bangkok--31 Jul--PC & Associates Consulting
Cisco Systems (Thailand) Ltd., the worldwide leader in networking for the Internet, has provided technology support for “Bangkok International ICT Expo 2006: ICT for the Next Generation” allowing visitors to witness cutting-edge technology and experience real-life application of IP Telephony. The event is taking place on August 2-6, 2006 at Challenger 1-3, IMPACT Muang Thong Thani.
Mr. Vorkon Patra-Yanan, Regional Managing Director, Indochina Operations, Cisco Systems, said this is the third consecutive year that Cisco has officially sponsored “Bangkok International ICT Expo: ICT for the Next Generation.” To demonstrate real-life technology applications, Cisco will deploy industry-leading routers, LAN switches and access points to deliver wired and wireless services across the exhibition areas. The network will accommodate services and applications for registration desk, operation center, exhibition booths, international convention rooms, press center, and cyber cafe.
“At ICT Expo 2006, Cisco will also deploy over 20 IP phones to enable surveys and questionnaires for this event and allow visitors to get hand-on experience in IP Telephony.”
Moreover, Cisco has collaborated with the National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC), Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, Ministry of Interior, and Asia Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) to conduct a pilot project for Emergency and Educational Communication Vehicle or EECV. This vehicle will bring high-speed, high-capacity communication system to distant areas, allowing local people to access telephone and broadband Internet services in emergency and normal situations.
When there are not any emergencies or disasters, the EECV will enable the community to get trained on how to use the Internet in both normal and crisis conditions, as well as how to leverage information and communication technologies to expand their knowledge base and maximize professional opportunities. This project is aimed at distant and underdeveloped areas, where communication infrastructure is not yet available.
Cisco’s major role is to introduce EECV into remote areas so as to provide Internet access and educate local people on three main topics: how to use EECV for emergency response, basic uses of IT, and specific knowledge required by each community.
“Cisco believes the Internet is changing the way we live with the way we learn. Our commitments focus on three areas: inspiring innovative ideas among local people, urging each community to be self-sufficient, and developing knowledge-based community.”
Visitors will find the demonstration of EECV at NECTEC booth, ICT Expo 2006.
