Bangkok--4 Aug--TQPR (Thailand)
In the occasion of Mother’s Day, the hospital invites people to take mothers to check Osteoporosis for free and advise how to avoid and treat it including educate the new technique: MIS TKA with the special High-Flexion that allows patients to bend their knees safety to 155 degrees
Dr. Parachai Angsuwotai, Deputy Medical Director, Orthopaedist and Associate Professor Dr. Viroj Kawinwonggowit, M.D. of Nakornthon Hospital, the skillful surgeons specializing in Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) surgery, are offering the special promotion for Osteoporosis patients by using a new technique of “Minimally Invasive Surgery for Total Knee Arthroplasty (MIS TKA)” which make less damage to the tissue around the knee, smaller incision, less bleeding, quick recovery and shorter hospital stay. The traditional treatment needs at least 7 days for hospital stay but MIS TKA, patients can go home within 4 days after surgery. Especially, on the auspicious occasion of Mother’s Day, the hospital will offer the special promotion for patients by presenting MIS TKA with special price only 150,000 baht. Moreover, they provide the knowledge to general public in order for them to know how to avoid Osteoporosis in elderly people and basic treatment including to explain about the evolution of MIS advancement to the patients to let them understand that the new method of surgery with the new special prosthesis — High Flexion that will enhance patients to have better quality of life and can continue their normal daily activities as well as to help extending the existence of TKA.
The orthopaedists of Nakornthon Hospital are the experienced surgeons for MIS TKA, and they have done the MIS TKA since 2005, on close to 200 patients.
In Thailand, the number of Osteoporosis patients, mostly female, is increasing over ten thousand a year[1
]. The reason why some people suffer from sore joints and/or various types of arthritis is not fully understood. People who exercise excessively, people who are overweight and not physically fit, and people who have a genetic predisposition towards joint weakness and arthritis are more likely to suffer from damaged joints. Sometimes a bad fall or blow is the cause of joint injury or damage to the knee. When the injury doesn’t heal properly, extra pressure is placed on the joint. This may cause the cartilage cushion to wear away over time known as traumatic arthritis. Osteoporosis is the most common type of arthritis, usually middle-aged and older people. The exact cause of Osteoporosis is unknown. When cartilage becomes cracked as in the case of Osteoporosis, the cartilage on longer performs its function as a shock absorber and thus, movement of the joint becomes painful. When cartilage wears away in a weight-vearing joint, it can lead to severe pain, deformity and loss of mobility. It is, therefore, very important to provide the knowledge to general public in order for them to know how to avoid Osteoporosis as well as to educate how to exercise in a correct way. To avoid the activities that may affect or degenerate joints prematurely, patients need to control their weight and exercise in a correct way to strengthen their thigh muscle.
“MIS TKA is a method of performing a knee replacement. It leads to have smaller incision; lessening the cut from 8 to 10 inches long down to only 4 to 6 inches long. This means that there will be potentially less damage to the tissue around the knee resulting in significantly less pain and less scar tissue. Therefore, patients will recover and can go back to continue their daily activities faster.” said Associate Professor Dr. Viroj Kawinwonggowit, M.D. of Nakornthon Hospital.
“Today, MIS has become the standard of care for many procedures and has become widely accepted in nearly all-medical specialties, often replacing traditional, open surgery because patients will be less damage, less bleeding, quicker recovery. Especially, on the auspicious occasion of Mother’s Day, I would like to invite people to bring mothers who are risky to have Osteoporosis because the hospital will offer the special promotion for people who take their mothers to check their knees on 12 Aug without any expenses in order to protect and provide timely treatment.” said Dr. Parachai Angsuwotai, Deputy Medical Director, Orthopaedist of Nakornthon Hospital.
From their extensive experience in TKA surgery, they aim to help all patients keep up with their daily activities. Prosthetic designs that safely accommodate deep flexion are becoming increasingly important. The High Flexion is designed to safely accommodate flexion of up to 155 degrees.
