Bangkok--4 Aug--EXIM Bank
EXIM Thailand, Department of Export Promotion, Department of Business Development and Thai Intertrader Association form an alliance to promote professionalism and competitiveness of Thai intertraders in a bid to win global market share for Thai merchandise and OTOP products.
Mrs. Chantra Purnariksha, Director-General of Department of Export Promotion, Ms. Orajit Singkalavanich, Director-General of Department of Business Development, Dr. Apichai Boontherawara, President of Export-Import Bank of Thailand (EXIM Thailand), and Mr. Cachapum Sirichanachai, President of Thai Intertrader Association (TITA) sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to promote and support the competitiveness of Thailand’s intertraders, SME exporters, export-oriented One Tambon One Product (OTOP) producers and overseas business operators at EXIM Thailand Head Office on August 4, 2006.
Under the MOU, the four parties will collaborate as an alliance to develop Thai intertraders’ capability to operate export business as well as import raw material and new production technology more efficiently. Apart from serving as counselor to intertraders, SME exporters and export-oriented OTOP producers, TITA will help the four-party alliance keep pace with and meet their demands. Through this partnership, various activities will be organized to equip Thai intertraders and SME entrepreneurs with comprehensive knowledge and capability necessary for their success in the global marketplace.
These activities include marketing promotion events, business matching, integrated export management training courses covering topics ranging from start-up exporter preparation to technical capacity building and trading strategies. In addition, information services will be provided as well as tailor-made financial services in the forms of loans, export bill negotiation service and export credit insurance facility offering protection against commercial or political risks of non-payment from overseas customers, particularly new buyers in unfamiliar markets.
The scope of this cooperation also extends to the SME and OTOP communities with export interest. By linking these potential exporters with intertraders, their products can be more widely distributed in foreign markets. Meantime, the SME and OTOP entrepreneurs can obtain information and knowledge on market demands essential for further developing their products.
This MOU, therefore, marks the beginning of a strong partnership among the public and private sectors to enhance the standard and quality of Thai products and open up distribution channels for Thai exports in the global marketplace. This combined support from governmental agencies, financial institution, and intertrader communities will play a key role to sharpen SME and local entrepreneurs’ long-term competitiveness necessary for Thailand’s sustainable development.
