Bangkok--24 Aug--SET
Anticipating expansion, The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) plans to build its new offices on Rachadapisek Road, near the Thailand Cultural Center subway station.
The plan was approved today (August 23, 2006) by the SET Board of Governors. The anticipated future expansion of the SET group includes the development of a more integrated market, offering a variety of equity, debt, and derivatives instruments. Consequently, there will be significant growth in information technology, staff, marketing and educational programs, and in other areas, SET Executive Vice President and Board Secretary Ms. Nongram Wongwanich said.
“The present building, also on Rachadapisek Road but near a different subway station, was built on rented land, and so development is limited. Therefore we needed to find a new area for our permanent office,” Ms. Nongram added.
The new location makes for easier management, as SET will have exclusive rights over the land and any buildings constructed on it. It is in a developing area, where several property projects are underway, enjoys easy access to the airport, and is on the planned subway extension. The construction of the new office building will commence in mid-2008. The land area is about 11 rai (approx. 4.45 acres), and cost THB 1,400 million. The SET received land title in April 2006.
