CINEMAX SPECIAL EVENT: SEASON TWO OF EMMY(R) NOMINATED EPIC SCI-FI SERIES BATTLESTAR GALACTICA PREMIERES 3 SEPTEMBER 2006 AT 8PM (TH) ON CINEMAX
The Emmy(R) nominated epic sci-fi series BATTLESTAR GALACTICA soars back to Asian television with a much-awaited second season premiering 3 September 2006 at 8pm on Cinemax (UBC 13).
Set in the distant solar system, in this remake of the 70s cult series of the same name, the android Cylons are sophisticated robots with artificial intelligence that have now taken human form and are in a quest to destroy mankind, whom they were built to serve. When the Cylons annihilate the entire human population with a sudden sneak nuclear attack, a group of humans, led by Commander William Adama (Emmy(R) and Golden Globe(R) winner Edward James Olmos, Miami Vice), flee the attack onboard the space ship Battlestar Galactica to seek out a new home for humanity — a mythical planet known as “Earth”, only to be continually pursued by the ruthless Cylons.
The second season of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA picks up where the first left off; with the fleet divided by a power struggle as President Laura Roslin (Academy Award(R) nominee Mary McDonnell, Dances With Wolves) refuses Commander Adama’s demand for her resignation. Just as it seems like military rule has emerged victorious over democracy, Cylon Sharon (Grace Park, The Immortal) shoots Commander Adama twice.
In this new season, Colonel Tigh (Michael Hogan, Betrayed) is thrust into the unfamiliar leadership role as the mortally wounded Adama fights for his life. The crisis gets worse fast. An emergency jump to escape the Cylons goes wrong, leaving Galactica alone in space, separated from the rest of the fleet and the medical help required to save Adama's life. It soon becomes clear that to reconnect with the fleet, Galactica must jump back into danger and network its computers, a highly risky move that will make the ship vulnerable to attack from both the Cylon fighters and their crippling computer viruses.
Developed by sci-fi veteran and Emmy(R) nominee Ronald D. Moore (Star Trek), BATTLESTAR GALACTICA has established a colossal following for itself across the world, and has been further affirmed with glowing reviews, an Emmy(R) nomination for the Outstanding Special Visual Effects For A Series award in 2005, and an exceptional record as the highest-rated original series in the 12-year history of the Sci-Fi Channel in the United States.
BATTLESTAR GALACTICA’s cast also include: Katee Sackhoff (Hefner: Unauthorized) as Lt. Kara Thrace a.k.a. Starbuck — the devil-may-care female pilot; Jamie Bamber (Band Of Brothers) as Capt. Lee Adama a.k.a. Apollo — the estranged son of Commander William Adama; Tricia Helfer (CSI — Crime Scene Investigation) as the sexy villainess Cylon Number Six; James Callis (Bridget Jones: The Edge Of Reason) as Dr Gaius Baltar - an edgy science genius who gives into the seduction of Number Six; amongst others.
Will the humans eventually find the mythical plant “Earth”? Or will the Cylons succeed in annihilating all of mankind? Find out what happens next in the gripping second season of the cult sci-fi hit series BATTLESTAR GALACTICA as it premieres for the first time on Asian television this 3 September 2006 at 8pm on Cinemax (UBC 13), with subsequent episodes every Sunday at the same time.
