The art project Brand New 2006 will be organized for the forth year with the co-operation of the contemporary art galleries in Bangkok. This is the first year that artists were selected by Japanese Curator Ms. Naoko Usuki.Poonyanuch Thammarak, from Chulalongkorn University, is the one in all artists in Brand New 2006 project who will show the photographs of herself in “Does Not Exist” — a photo exhibition at Tadu. “My illness — heart disease has made me realize the value of living and raise a question in my mind as to what would happen if I have to face death. This curiosity has become an inspiration to create artworks that reflect an imaginary line between life and death. This, in a way, helps ease worries towards unforeseen incidents. And no matter what situation we will be in, our body and soul will eventually be perished. Even conceptual images that we have and feel are intangible and unreal. Everything in the world is non-self.” The Brand New Project aims to encourage the new generation of artists to express themselves through solo exhibition without any compulsory themes or framework. This project also focuses on exchanging art enthusiasts and audiences among the collaborating galleries and initiating a network of the contemporary galleries in Bangkok. This year, nine talented artists were invited to join Brand New 2006. The artists will take turns exhibiting their art pieces during September to October 2006 at four venues: Bangkok University, Chulalongkorn University Art Center, Tadu Contemporary Art and Hof Art Gallery.
