Bangkok--18 Sep--Broiler Association
Veeraphong Panchavathanakul, President of Broiler Association, revealed that Thai chicken industry has upgraded its chicken raising system to meet the international standards which include the changes of chicken houses to the ones operated by evaporative system, rigid farm management and the disease prevention and protection programs. Furthermore, all operators, regardless of their size, must adhere to the strict measurements of Department of Livestock Development (DLD). Consequently, small, medium, or large farm operators are all operating under the same standards.
“All operators in the industry have applied the same standards. According to the DLD, all processes involve acquiring animal relocation permission documents. If violate, the operator will be charged as the criminal case. With these measures, all chickens are definitely free from the diseases and safe for consumers,” said Mr Veeraphong.
Compared with other meats, chicken, is a meat providing high protein and low cholesterol at cheaper price. Also, chicken meat can be used as part of various favorite menus or dishes and it is appropriate for the current economic situation. For chicken consumption rate of the year 2006, Thai people consume only 13.82 kgs./person/year while foreigners such as American and Canadian consume 46.13 and 30.06 kgs./person/year respectively. In other words, Thai people consume a lesser amount of chicken than it should be even Thailand is the fourth chicken producer in the world. Therefore, President Veeraphong would like to ask every Thai consumer to consume more chicken and at the same time the Broiler Association will campaign the chicken consumption to motivate consumers through several media channels.
