The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) members’ recent general meeting resolved to approve Khunying Jada Wattanasiritham as SET governor, after the resignation of Mr. Prasert Bunsumpun of PTT PCL. Khunying Jada’s term will be from October 3, 2006 — May 27, 2008, Executive Vice President of The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) Mr. Suthichai Chitvanich, speaking as secretary to the SET Board of Governors, declared.
“Khunying Jada is suitable for the position in many respects, with 39 years experience and knowledge in the financial and banking industry. Her capacity and vision are well recognized, and SET can benefit from her joining the board,” Mr. Suthichai added.
Khunying Jada holds a B.A. and M.A. (Economics) from Cambridge and an M.A. (Economic Development) from Williams College, U.S.A. She is currently Chairperson of the Thai Bankers Association, President and CEO of Siam Commercial Bank PCL, and won ‘Best CEO of the Year’ at the recent SET Awards 2006.
To represent all major stakeholders, the Board of Governors consists of a maximum of eleven people, five of whom are appointed by the Securities and Exchange Commission, and five who are elected by members of the Exchange. The SET President, appointed by the Board, is an ex-officio member of the Board.
Four governors representing SET members are elected by member companies’ and one is chosen from a list presented by the members’ nomination committee. A nominated person must not be a director, manager, or employee of a member company.
The current Board is made up of experts from various fields, who hold office for two years, and may be re-elected or appointed for another term. However they cannot assume a position for more than two consecutive terms. The SET president, may hold office for four years, and may be reappointed.
