The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) will be heading to Khon Kaen province in northeastern Thailand, hosting “Bonds for the People” on October 28, after it successfully joined Northern Money Expo in Chiang Mai on Oct. 13 — 15. Its seminar sessions on SET50 Index Futures and economic and investment trends in 2007 were well-attended. People were also keen to get information and investment books throughout the three-day event.
A survey of booth visitors to Northern Money Expo showed that they were satisfied with documents and activities hosted by the SET and subsidiaries, SET President Ms. Patareeya Benjapolchai disclosed. About 4,000 documents were distributed at the event. SET booth visitors were also active in making charitable donations, and SET gave complimentary investment pocket books for every THB 40 donation.
“Our next investor base expansion activity will be ‘Bonds for the People’, to educate them about managing savings securely yet profitably. The focus will still be on educating participants through seminars, trainings, and publications. The SET’s educational activities will be ongoing, because as people understand the choices suited to them and have access to those choices, they and their families will gain the utmost benefit. Thus, our activities will focus on content and reaching our target audiences throughout the country,” Ms. Patareeya said.
CEO of BEX (Bond Electronic Exchange) Dr. Santi Kiranand said that the upcoming “Bonds for the People” was the third such event held; previously, BEX held these programs in Phuket and Bangkok, to promote investment in debt instruments. These instruments are suitable for people wishing to gain stable returns at low risk. People planning for long-term saving should add bonds to their portfolio choices.
At “Bond for the People” in Khon Kaen, there will seminars on “Buying bonds, gaining interest and securing savings”, “Bonds: A profitable choice”, and “Investing strategy for the year’s last quarter”.
Moreover, there will be a workshop to familiarize people with bond trading. About 10 financial institutions, including commercial banks and securities companies, will join the event as well.
This year the SET group has held more than 20 events in Bangkok and the provinces. This includes Analyst Fair, Thai Investors’ Day, and SET in the City, all held in Bangkok. Activities held in other provinces include “TFEX Futures Camp” in Khon Kaen, “Money Channel Roadshow” in Udon Thani, and “Bonds for the People” in Phuket.
