Bangkok--25 Oct--Thana Burin Asia Pacific
Four bodybuilders from Thai Bodybuilding Association, including Thailand’s first Bodybuilding Champion Sitthi Charoenrith, will compete at the 60th IFBB Men’s World Bodybuilding Championships organised in Ostrava, Czech Republic from 26 — 30 October 2006. The competition will strengthen Thai bodybuilders athletes before the up-coming 15th Asian Games or known publicly as Doha Games in Qatar late this year. It is believed that more than 76 countries’ bodybuilding representatives around the world will compete.
Besides Thailand’s first Bodybuilding Champion Sitthi Charoenrith, who will compete in the 80 kgs category, other bodybuilders are Mr Somkid Sumethovejakul (65 kgs category), Mr Boontham Sriboonthong (70 kgs category) and Mr Sawang Panapoy (75 kgs category). All will depart for Czech Republic with Austrian Airlines (OS205) from Suvarnabhumi Airport on 25th October at 2330 hrs.
According to Mr Pakong Kraingsak, President of Thai Bodybuilding Association, “Thai Bodybuilding Association wishes to enhance our bodybuilding athletes’ capabilities. Participating in the world championships will help them to develop their skills, particularly when they have to compete at the up-coming 15th Doha Games at the end of this year. We wish to see our athletes in the world ranking and at the same time evaluate other Asian competitors. We believe that many teams from countries in Asia participating in this event, including South Korea, China and Japan will also compete at the 15th Doha Games. However, we believe that Qatar will send another bodybuilding team to compete at the Doha Games.
“All of our athletes have participated in several competitions. They know their competitors and how to prepare themselves. They have been on extensive trainings, as well as are strict on nutritious and diet programmes. They have also practiced meditation. We hope that our athletes will be able to reach the top five which is the highest goal for Asian countries. Generally, there are very few opportunities Asian bodybuilders are able to reach the final round because the Middle East and European figures are more defined. However, many of Thai bodybuilders have had extremely good results from pervious competition, including Mr Boontham Sriboonthong (11th rank), Mr Somkid Sumethovejakul (7th rank), whilst Mr Sitthi Charoenrith was awarded World Bodybuilding Champion. However, athletes from Iran, Czech and Slovak are very good as well,” Mr Pakpong said.
At the 60th IFBB Men’s World Bodybuilding Championships, Mr Sugree Supawarikul, Secretary General of Thailand Bodybuilding Association, has been also chosen as one of the judging committee members.
Meanwhile, Thailand’s first World Bodybuilding Champion Sitthi Charoenrith, who is going to defend his world title said “I am ready for this world championships. I will do my best to show the world how good Thai bodybuilders are.”
“Results of the 60th IFBB Men’s World Bodybuilding Championships will help us to evaluate and improve our bodybuilding athletes before the Doha Games in Qatar. All Thai athletes will return to Bangkok on 31st October,” Mr Pakpong added.
