Bangkok--2 Nov--Tamnak Prathom Harp Centre
The Tamnak Prathom Harp Centre is rounding off its year-long celebration of the Chudadhuj Harp's 90th year with a gala benefit concert by harpist Isabelle Moretti on Friday November 24, 2006 at the Thailand Cultural Centre , Small Auditorium at 8 p.m.
HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana, Kromluang Naradhiwat Rajanagarindra will graciously attend.
Known as France's most exciting harpist of her generation, Isabelle Moretti is making the event a return concert since her first visit in 2003 and the event will be to raise funds for the HH Princess Sudasiri Sobha's Fund for the Thai Red Cross.
The programme will feature the Asian premiere of "Bamyan", an intriguing piece written in 2002 specially for the harp by French composer Philippe Hersant (1948-). Bamyan is the name of a village in Afghanistan, where the two giant buddha statues were etched into the cliff. The composer had the chance to visit this village before the Taleban came to destroy the two statues, an act which shocked the world. On the trip, Hersant was enchanted by the music he had heard and it refused to leave his mind such that he had to write a piece using the music as its theme.
Other work featured in the program will be an interesting mixture of music from Mozart Sonata in C major,Spanish pieces by Albeniz and Granados, and an opera Fantasia from Charles Gounod's Faust by Albert Zabel.
Tickets are at 800 baht and 500 baht and advanced booking is available by calling the Tamnak Prathom Harp Centre 02 261 4777-8, and the Harp Shop 02 261 6769.
