Siam City Cement Plc outlines sustainable development as an essential part of business success.
Organizations worldwide are embracing the concept of sustainable development, emphasizing not only economic growth but human development, creating community and social benefits and responsible environmental management. SCCC’s executive is committed to being a model for sustainable development practices, pointing out that the private sector should be model citizens to assist society and the environment with business transparency.
Siam City Cement Public Company Limited states that “ for over the past 30 years, the company has achieved economic success whilst managing to develop and implement its corporate social and environmental responsibilities. This has been a key challenge for the organization, a model for sustainable development in Thailand”.
“ The company has improved occupational health and safety among employees and developed quality human resources. We continue to build strength within the community and promote self-reliance at both local and national level. Effective and efficient use of national resources ,alternative fuels and alternative raw materials in production process helps preserve natural resources for generations to come.”
The challenge for business is the need to improve transparency through good corporate governance practices and paying greater attention to social and environmental impacts along with business success. This has long been the practice of Siam City Cement and the outcomes have been reflected through the company’s performances”.
Presiding over the ceremony, Khun Anan Panyarachun, Chairman of Thailand Business Council for Sustainable Development and Chairman of Council of Trustees Thailand Environment Institute, noted that today both government and private enterprises are cooperating in the area of sustainable development.
Siam City Cements 2006 Sustainable Development Report’s theme of “Living Together” focuses on three core sustainable development areas; economy, social and environment. The system to manage these core areas must be in line with organization’s direction, must be measurable and include the outcome of the development and projects supported by the company;such as campaigns to promote education, projects to improve craftsmanship and environmental preservation.
