Ford revolutionizes the pickup and medium SUV segment with its introduction of the market's first five-speed automatic transmission.
The five-speed automatic transmission technology is part of Ford's promise of continuous product innovation to Thai drivers.
With Ford’s innovative Transmission Control Module technology, Thai drivers benefit from convenience and outstanding driving enjoyment without compromising fuel economy and vehicle performance
Keeping to its promise of continuous product innovation to the Thai market, Ford Thailand today announced the debut of its revolutionary technology five-speed automatic transmission in the pickup and medium-sized SUV segments, made available in Thailand for the first time. The new transmission will make its public debut in the new Everest SUV and the new Ranger. It is coupled with Ford's powerful but fuel efficient Duratorq common rail engine.
Mr. Steven Tan, Ford Thailand's Vice President of Marketing, said, “The introduction of the five-speed automatic transmission is another industry first in the pickup and medium-sized SUV segments by Ford. Designed to meet customers’ increasing demand, the new transmission system makes Ford pickups and medium-sized SUVs not only great to drive with strong smooth acceleration, but also amongst the most fuel efficient in the industry.”
Ford’s new five-speed automatic transmission system features an innovative Transmission Control Module (TCM) that can automatically detect and quickly adjust to the changing engine speed and driving condition. It keeps the transmission system always at its peak power band or most frequently used engine speed range, thus making the vehicle more responsive. It is perfect for both urban and highway driving as well as off road.
Such acceleration rate continuity definitely needs less fuel to boost the engine power up to the level desired by the driver, therefore resulting in the best possible fuel economy.
Ford’s innovative five-speed automatic transmission is perfectly compatible with the new generation Duratorq 2.5L and 3.0L commonrail direct injection engines.
The new five-speed automatic transmission system is available in both two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive powertrain. In 4WD transmission system, it is equipped with the world renowned Borg Warner transfer system and electronic Active Shift-on-the-Fly, allowing a driver to shift the driving mode from 2WD to 4WD at high driving speeds of up to 100 kph.
Built according to Ford’s legendary high durability and toughness standards, the new five-speed automatic transmission system is made with a one-piece die cast aluminum case. It is designed to effectively handle the Duratorq common-rail's best in-class 380Nm torque. Transmission noise and vibration are also minimized, providing the driver and passenger with an extraordinary smooth and quiet ride.
“Continuous product innovation has always been Ford's philosophy throughout its 10 years in Thailand. The introduction of the new five-speed transmission is the latest manifestation of this philosophy, and of the company’s ability to respond to the needs of the new generation consumers.
“Among our innovative first-in-the-market introductions to the Thai auto industry since 1996 include: safety features like the ABS and airbags in the Ranger in 1998, the Ranger Double Cab in 2000, the Ranger Open Cab in 2002, the Focus E20 gasohol engine in 2005 and the Escape E20 gasohol engine earlier this year. We continuously bring these product innovations for one purpose only — to make life better and more enjoyable for all Thai consumers. And that's part of our promise to “Make Everyday Exciting”,” Mr. Tan concluded.
You can experience and grab a chance to own the Ford Everest and Ford Ranger with the pioneering 5-speed automatic transmission system before anyone at Ford Thailand’s booth at the Thailand International Motor Expo 2007 at Challenger Hall, Muang Thong Thani, from November 30-December 11.
